About

I am a born and bred Trinbagonian who developed a great love for photography and a deep connection to the scenery both natural and man-made around us in Trinidad & Tobago. I am a Hydrographic surveyor first and an avid photographer secondly in what spare time I can muster from a busy work and family life. After first discovering my love for photography as a hobby circa 2009/2010, this rapidly snowballed from a hobby into a love, or rather an obsession, where significant portions of my spare time are spent pursuing photography related activities to some extent.

My dream job of mapping the high seas in my Hydrography profession of the last 15+ years to date is engrained in me. Resultantly, it has served to stir my imagination and fascination with the coast and ocean; though now all manner of subject matter interests me, once it does not talk back to me (just kidding….well maybe). While I always took my hobby of photography very seriously in the early stages, I would say around 2016-2017 I began to approach it with a more professional mindset. This coincided with my focusing on depicting imagery from our twin-island republic on social media and other platforms where I started the “ilovetrinidadandtobago” pages for sharing specific scenic and cultural images of home which I accumulated over the years and this was well received by most.

Adding fuel to the photography-fire, along the way in my journey came some winning entrants into national photography competitions and some small measure of success, thus far, on the international front. I have been graced with opportunities to have work exhibited on a few occasions in addition to a few notable publications showing interest in my work and extending open arms, as well as cheque books thankfully, to have my images grace the pages of their magazines.

In 2020 I decided to leave the “ilovetrinidadandtobago” name behind for various reasons but maintained that moving forward I would continue to always have imagery of T&T as my primary focus while leaving the door open to any opportunities to explore my craft with no limits.

Fast-forward to today, I lug around that big backpack you see in the image to the left with two camera bodies, three or four lenses, a drone, two tripods and a bunch of filters and other accessories. Nowadays I am always ready at any opportunity to capture something magical at a moment’s notice whether it be in the commute to or from work, a brief detour before or after work for sunrise or sunset. Better yet, it can be a weekend hike or longer journey to a favourite spot in the mountains or coast or greatest of all, to discover somewhere new to share with fellow Trinbagonians or photo enthusiasts around the globe.

Awards and notable achievements

• 1st place winner in the Landscape Photography Category of the Trinidad and Tobago Photographic Society 2018 Photography Competition

• 1st place overall in the 2018 “My Trinidad and Tobago” Photography competition organized and jointly hosted by the European Union in Trinidad and Tobago and Alliance Française Trinidad and Tobago

• 1st place winner in the Landscape Photography Category of the Trinidad and Tobago Photographic Society 2019 Photography Competition

• Honourable mention from IPA - The International Photo Awards 2019 Competition (People and Street photography category, Non-professional)

• 2nd place in the Landscape Photography Category of the Trinidad and Tobago Photographic Society 2020 Photography Competition

• Bronze award for 2020 Epson International Pano Awards Photography Competition Amateur Category

• Honourable mention from IPA - The International Photo Awards 2020 Competition (Fine Art Landscape category, Non-professional)

Publications

• Caribbean Airlines “Caribbean Beat” in-flight magazine published by MEP Publishers in March/April 2020 “Phagwah, the Rite of Spring” which was a multiple page photo album.

• Caribbean Airlines “Caribbean Beat” in-flight magazine published by MEP Publishers in July/August 2020, two-page spread of Paria Bay

• Caribbean Airlines “Caribbean Beat” in-flight magazine published by MEP Publishers in March/April 2021, multiple images.

• Five images published alongside some other notable creatives in the Caribbean community in a curatorial collective for Zürich moves! 10th Anniversary edition for 2021

• My images have been published in popular annual local tourist magazines; “Ins and Outs of Trinidad and Tobago” as well as “Discover T&T” on several occasions over the years.

• Additionally my work has been licensed for use on government and state agency websites.

• Though not a publication, it was very gratifying to see one of my images chosen for the annual World Meteorological Organization’s Calendar for the 2021 edition. The image chosen was “Double Rainbow over the Caroni Plains” which was selected as a finalist our of thousands of images submitted in the entry phase of a competition. Then social media voting was used to select the final 12 images. It was very satisfying to continue to put T&T on the world stage.

Exhibitions

• I have Exhibited in the Trinidad and Tobago National Museum's 2018 exhibition titled "Through My Lens" with two (2) Curator's choice pieces.

• In April 2019, I was invited by Horizons Art Gallery in collaboration with the Trinidad Hilton to a shared exhibit in the first edition of the year of the series "Art at the Hilton" where the theme was "Around the Savannah"

• Later on in November 2019, I was invited once again to participate in the final “Art at the Hilton” installment for 2019, I had nice (9) pieces of my photography of varied subject matter on display all printed on fine art paper.
